“R.i.t.e.s.” – Rooted In The Ephemeral Speak (December 2009 Installment)
The December installment of R.I.T.E.S project will be an electro-acoustic event by sound artists and experimental musicians. There will be four artists each presenting a solo performance each, followed by free improvisational jamming session by the artists of the event.
This electro-acoustic set platforms fresh and exciting perspectives from the invited artists who are critically acclaimed practitioners in sound art. The night’s event is an eclectic mix of analog and electronic instrumental performances from the musical genre of post-punk, psychedelic folk rock, noise art, audio-collage and progressive sound-related genres that adds on to the diverse sound and visual cultural practice in Singapore. The event aims to give the audience an evolutionary auditory experience through the sonic works of the artists.

Artists' biography:

Dennis Tan


Dennis Tan is a Singaporean sound and visual artist currently doing his Masters studies in Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste, Braunschweig and is staying and working in Bremen, Germany. The artist had recently produced a series of visual works in the form of sound installation and sound-producing sculptures. He had travel around Germany and Finland to present his sonic performances, they are performed in various sound and art events that are held mostly in Europe.

Goh Lee Kwang


Goh Lee Kwang is one of the most prolific sound and visual artist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He had collectively organized many experimental music and sound art events in many art spaces and galleries in Malaysia. The artist has created sound installations, sonic-visual interactive installations, single and multi channel videos, works for radio broadcasts and soundtracks for theatre, dance, and independent movie. He had been invited to numerous sound-art related events in Asia and Europe since 2004. Goh is also the artistic director of the music label Herbal International and one of the founding members of the Experimental Artists Co-op Malaysia (EMACM) and Desir Studio. Herbal International is the leading experimental music label from Malaysia that release works from composers, musicians sound artists all over the world; and Desir Studio is an alternative multifunctional space in Kuala Lumpur. Zai Kuning


Zai Kuning is a well established multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Singapore. Since the last two decades, Zai had consistently presented artworks from ceramics art, painting, sculpture, art installations, photography, music albums, poetry books, theatrical productions, art videos and short films that inform the audience of his unique vision of certain social and cultural conditions in the urban environment where we live in and is known for his robust belief and propagation of individual autonomy through hybridized cultural productions. The artist had most recently toured in Tokyo with Otomo Yoshide and had exhibited consistently in numerous visual art exhibitions in Singapore and overseas. (http://www.myspace.com/zaikuning)
